Return of the Retro: Fashion and Food through FUJIFILM’s new tech toys

A photograph is a memory captured to revisit, over and over again.

As a photographer since consciousness, I was thrilled to be part of the influencer program for FUJIFILM‘s launch of the hybrid instant camera instax SQUARE SQ10 with the new square format film “instax SQUARE Film”. As the first hybrid camera within its range with a digital image sensor and processor, it allows creatives like me to create every day into a work of art! Almost like a framework that summed up my life, I was invited to both the fashion and food portions.

I first attended both the night party, complete with cocktails and pop ups, where we learned about the way the camera worked amidst a glitz of experiences. The key features are its easy-to-use intuitive interface for processing and printing, the ability to have photographic expression with image editing that impacts vignette, lighting, intensity and everything a cameraperson would need, ending with improved image quality for indoor and night.

The party itself was a fun affair for fashionistas and party animals of New York, followed by a luncheon for the food critique portion.

Tasting Table hosted a lunch run by No Leftovers and with food by The Eddy NYC. The purpose was to have foodies taste the dishes, and then take exquisite and quirky pics to showcase the fun while tasting the foods.

The three course meal comprised of a delectable mushroom, peas, dil oil, polenta, asparagus and horseradish dish, with the pink and green being an enviable contrast as the rawness of the asparagus coated in dil oil made for a runway-like showstopper. It tasted fresh, herbaceous and delicious, and was followed up by a trending floral salad of sorts: a charred asparagus salad, Bonito vinaigrette, cashews and flowering broccoli. With an underlying bitter taste, it was a refreshing, almost palette cleansing taste, with a nutty undertone and a sweet and sour vinegar to balance things out.

The dessert was a panna cotta with stewed rhubarb, basil and sea salt, an intriguing combination of tangy, sweet and straight up salty, with whole leaves of basil to trick the mind into thinking it was not a dessert! A well balanced and perfectly harmonized dessert served in a thankfully minuscule portion.

To think that the instax cameras launched in 1998 and have been a leader in the photography market! Truly, the instant capturing of moments has had a retro return, and one that is enviably artistic and quintessentially beautiful.

On to more photo moments, forever.
