The Essence of a Biker Boy: Ralph Lauren’s Polo Red Extreme

I am an obsessive fragrance addict, having owned my first bottle at age 5, before being able to pronounce its French origin name.

Two decades later, who knew I’d be seeing myself gracing the launch of a new one by the iconic Polo Ralph Lauren, in the newest sequence of its alluring Polo Red line?

Upon reviewing the essentials of the booming fragrance category and, as one of the most read posts of all time, selecting what fragrances men like on women, I am thrilled to share Polo Red Extreme, the newest men’s fragrance from Ralph Lauren Fragrances, owned by the L’Oreal group, and a sequence in the 2013 Polo Red lineup. Epitomizing masculinity, thrill and extreme sensations, this one is targeted to my favorite of masculine archetypes: the biker boy. With enough paraphernalia for playtime with a legendary theme.

In a garage like studio setup at the iconic Garage New York bathed in neon and red light, which happens to be my favorite color, we sampled an inventive display of inhaling the scent levels to understand the ingredients put together by Olivier Gillotin.

It is made of 3 notes (for those who want to refresh their fragrance families and perfume science, check this writeup); blood orange top notes with a hint of ginger and pineapple, followed by mid notes of black coffee, saffron and sage, ending with base notes of black ebony wood. The scent definitely relays a jolt of energy with fresh citrus and long lasting aromatic masculinity with the ebony wood, with much of the awakening attributed to the coffee bean scent. Totally in synch with an day party or night soiree. The matte black bottle with a red pony icon renders it more for a sultry night, and blends well with the launch setup amidst biker boys, racers, tossed black wheels and plush red roses, an ambiance for the best of bad boys!

The launch was graced by a Bruce Weber directed short film, as well as the new face of Polo Red Luke Bracey of Point Break, and Kenneth Guidroz, who race to the finish in an exhilarating ride, personifying the brand and spirit of the fragrance.

Ralph Lauren’s Polo Red Extreme will hit the stores in March 2017. Stay tuned!
